Sources & References

The Kansas Ultrarunning Historical Foundation maintains a traceable record of the sources used to support its historical claims, archival narratives, race and organization histories, and other documented material.

References may include original publications, newspapers, magazines, official race documents, timing records, organizational materials, archival websites, historical research, and other identifiable primary or secondary sources. Whenever possible, the Foundation records enough information for a reader or researcher to independently locate and evaluate the underlying source.

Provenance standard: historical claims and archival records should be traceable back to a specific source. A citation should identify not merely a publication or website, but the particular issue, article, page, document, result set, or archival record used whenever that level of detail is available.

How References Are Used

Historical Timeline

Events and milestones

Early-history entries, organizational milestones, publications, and other non-database events may cite one or more reference records supporting the date, description, and historical context.

Race & Runner Records

Verification and provenance

Authoritative race results, official documents, magazines, newspapers, and other accepted evidence may be cited when establishing or correcting the verified performance record.

Historical Media

Archived artifacts

A scan, article, photograph, audio recording, video, or other archival object may be housed in Historical Media while its original publication or source is documented here as a reference.

Research & Narrative

Traceable scholarship

Stories, organization histories, biographies, and historical summaries can point back to the same reference catalog, creating a consistent provenance trail across the Foundation.

Citation Record Standard

Reference records may include a Foundation reference ID, source type, author or creator, title, publication or organization, publication date, issue or volume, page number or section, original or archived URL, access date when applicable, and links to related races, organizations, people, timeline entries, or media records.

Reference Catalog

Documented source records

The catalog expands as historical materials are verified, scanned, indexed, and connected to the rest of the Foundation archive.

Dated sources are listed oldest first by documented publication or release date, then alphabetically by title. Undated sources follow alphabetically; continuously maintained resources appear separately.

Dated Sources

Ordered by the source’s documented publication or release date. Partial dates retain their documented precision.
