Historical Media

Contributing Historical Media

Historical media preserves context that does not always belong in the verified-results database. The Foundation welcomes print materials, photographs, audio, video, original research, historical analysis, firsthand accounts, interviews, recollections, race and organization history, and other documentary material when they contribute meaningfully to the history of ultrarunning in Kansas.

Selection and publication are curated. Submission does not guarantee acceptance, public reproduction, or publication, and publication does not convert an FKT, personal route effort, unofficial completion, self-reported result, or other excluded performance into a Foundation-verified database result.

What the Foundation Looks For

  • Substantial Kansas relevance. The subject itself must have a meaningful connection to Kansas ultrarunning history. Kansas residency alone is not enough.
  • Historical or archival value. The material should preserve, explain, document, or contextualize something worth keeping in the historical record.
  • Supporting material and provenance where available. Identify what the material documents, when and where it was created, who created it, and where it came from, to the extent known. Race documents, photographs, recordings, GPS or Garmin links, official results, correspondence, newspaper coverage, published accounts, and similar evidence can strengthen a submission. Identify unknown information as unknown rather than guessing.
  • Clear attribution. Identify creators, contributors, interview participants, sources, and collections where known. Firsthand memory and personal accounts are welcome when relevant, but recollection remains recollection unless independently supported.
  • Rights and public reproduction. Explain what you know about ownership, permission, and any restrictions on the material. Receiving material for historical research and publicly reproducing it are separate decisions. Material may be retained for evaluation even when public reproduction rights are uncertain.
  • Editorial fit. The Foundation may publish, edit, excerpt, describe, cite, defer, hold, or decline material based on relevance, originality, completeness, evidence, duplication, rights considerations, available resources, and current archival priorities.
  • No publication entitlement. Publication of one item does not create a precedent requiring publication of another item on the same or a similar subject.

Historical-media selection and verified-database inclusion are separate determinations. The database remains governed by the Foundation’s published eligibility and evidence rules.
